Karina Jennings
Founder & Strategic Advisor
Decades of Experience. Ready to Use It.
I created The Catalyst Collective after more than 25 years leading marketing, brand, communications, and digital strategy in complex organizations.
Throughout my career, I worked at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and organizational change, helping leaders and teams clarify what matters, understand the people they serve, strengthen their brands, and communicate more effectively.
Today, I want to put that experience to use in a different way.
Through The Catalyst Collective, I work with nonprofit and community organizations that are making a meaningful difference but may not always have access to experienced, executive-level marketing and communications expertise. I bring strategic perspective, practical problem-solving, and hands-on support to help organizations strengthen their capabilities and advance their missions.
My approach begins with listening. I believe the people closest to an organization best understand its mission, community, opportunities, and challenges. My role is to bring an outside perspective, ask useful questions, share what I’ve learned, identify helpful resources, and work alongside leaders and teams to find practical ways forward.
The Catalyst Collective also reflects a broader belief I’ve developed at this stage of my life: decades of experience represent something worth sharing. Knowledge, especially when shared, can open possibilities, strengthen organizations, and help good work go further.
That’s why I believe Knowledge is the Spark.
Experience Across Levels
One of the defining strengths of my background is having worked at every level of marketing and communications:
Local market leadership, with responsibility for marketing and communications strategy, community engagement, media and public relations, and achievement of organizational goals
Regional strategy oversight, aligning multiple markets around shared strategies and priorities
Enterprise strategy leadership, integrating marketing, brand, digital, communications, and analytics across a complex, multi-state organization
That range of experience has taught me how to develop and evaluate strategy within real-world operational opportunities and constraints. I understand the realities facing frontline teams, the pressures on executive leadership, and the importance of aligning ambition with organizational capability.
My experience includes:
Marketing and communications strategy, planning, and execution
Audience identification, messaging, and communications strategy
Brand strategy development and deployment
Consumer journey and lifecycle strategy
Media and public relations strategy
Website and digital strategy and optimization
Cross-functional leadership and team development
Executive advisory and stakeholder alignment
While my leadership roles included significant operational responsibility, my strongest contribution has consistently been helping organizations determine where they are going, what matters most, and how to move forward.
How We Approach Engagements
I believe strategy should guide activity, not follow it.
Every engagement begins with discovery. Before recommending a direction, I want to understand the organization, the people it serves, the challenge or opportunity, its goals, and the resources available to address them.
It’s easy for activity to outpace alignment, particularly when organizations are managing competing priorities and limited resources. I help leaders step back and clarify:
What problem are we trying to solve?
Who are we trying to reach or serve?
What are we uniquely positioned to do?
Where should we concentrate our resources?
What trade-offs are we willing to make?
My goal is to strengthen thinking at the point of decision and translate that thinking into pragmatic action plans that are realistic within the organization’s capacity.
Every organization is different. I don’t arrive with a predetermined answer or one-size-fits-all solution. I bring experience, perspective, questions, and ideas, then work alongside the people who know the organization best to determine the right path forward.
